Parents – Why a gap year?

As a parent, you want what’s best for your child. You have seen your child go from a baby first learning words to a young adult full of dreams and aspirations. Along the way you have helped, guided, reprimanded and cheered them on. For 18 years you have provided a nurturing environment for them to grow and mature in. Now with the graduation cap in the air and the next season on the horizon it’s time for them to go out into the world.

For most students, the next step is Freshmen year of college. The problem is that statistics are telling us that most people will change their major 3 times, accumulate 27,000 dollars of debt and no longer identify with their Christian faith by the time they graduate. College can and should be a wonderful, life changing experience for the better but the quick transition from the protective environment of home to the wide open college experience is often very difficult.

That is where the concept of a ‘gap year’ comes in. It is a year of transition between leaving home and going on the next season of life, whether that is college or a career. This is a pivotal time of life for young adults and the decisions they make will shape the rest of their life. Denver Gap Year gives them the time and place to go further into who they are and to figure out what they are passionate about before making those decisions. This is all done in a solid Christian community with Godly mentors helping along the way.

Denver Gap Year is a worthy investment because it provides an important link between the upbringing you provided in your home and the realities of the world they will live in and lead one day.
